Changes in climatic complexity in the last four decades using MERRA-2 radiation data.

The energy balance of the Earth is controlled by the shortwave and longwave radiation emitted to space. Changes in one of those components would lead to an energy imbalance and changes in the whole dynamic system. Using MERRA-2 data of the last four decades, we i) analyze the changes in the complexity of each of those components, and ii) study the evolution of the information fluxes from shortwave to longwave radiation and vice versa. In this talk, we will cover the formalism used to evaluate radiation (Information Theory and Chaos Theory) and present the main findings of our research. According to our analysis, the main changes in climate dynamics in the last forty years are due to variations in shortwave radiation.
