Development of Satellite Aerosol Products for Operational Aerosol Modeling Applications
Recent progress in aerosol modeling through data assimilation suggests that satellite aerosol products are necessary for improving the accuracy of aerosol analyses and forecasts.  Yet, different from climate applications that focus on long-term means, aerosol modeling-based applications need bias-reduced and quality-assured data at the individual retrieval level.  In this talk, I will present my research efforts on developing data-assimilation grade MODIS DT, DB and MISR aerosol products that are designed for operational-based aerosol modeling applications.  In the latter part of my talk, I will discuss my recent studies on evaluating the low bias in MODIS DT aerosol products over heavy aerosol polluted regions such as China, with the combined use of MODIS, OMI and CALIOP data.   This seminar will not be broadcasted.
