Measurements of Aerosol Absorption Spectra
NIST has developed a suite of quantitative spectroscopic methods to measure aerosol absorption and extinction across the visible and near-IR. Aerosol are classified by size and mass, allowing spectroscopic data to be measured and reported as a function of particle mass. In this talk the techniques will be described, focusing on measurements of aerosol absorption spectra of laboratory generated soot and burning biomass. The impact of particle morphology, humidity, and coatings on aerosol absorption will be discussed.
