The goal of this project is to increase the utility NASA datasets for a wide spectrum of users such as policy makers and professionals seeking to address societal and environmental needs as well as students, teachers, and scientists. As part of the effort to achieve this goal a group of NASA and university researchers supported by the NASA Applied Sciences program are currently engaged in professional outreach and educational activities in the area of Remote Sensing of the Atmosphere.
These activities focus on two areas:
- Creating and making available educational and training materials.
- Providing training workshops and seminars.
This web site provides links to these materials as well as a schedule of upcoming and past training events, information about the researchers who are part of this effort and links to other useful material.
The first group of educational materials we are making available covers basic concepts of satellite remote sensing science; proper use of the data; on-line resources and tools available for downloading, visualizing, and analyzing data; and applications to air quality. The modules are written at a level appropriate for professionals new to remote sensing of the atmosphere and university undergraduate and graduate students. In the future we plan to develop additional materials and tailor existing modules for audiences such as the general public and high school students.
After completion of the first set of materials we hope to add additional content relating to other applications and going into the specifics of particular sensors used in remote sensing of the atmosphere . Longer range plans call for inclusion of materials related to remote sensing of the land and ocean.
