New findings from analysis of
satellite data, field experiments and modeling efforts show the wide array
of aerosol effects on climate, weather and air quality. Understanding how aerosols affect the energy budget and cloud/precipitation processes is necessary for predicting future climates, mitigating severe weather, and improving air quality and the health and safety of earth's inhabitants.
Yet aerosols are fleeting and their interactions complex, so that modeling their effects is extremely challenging. Uncertainty of the aerosol effect on climate is an order of magnitude larger than for greenhouse gases.
